Chiefs Corner:
Pierceton Fire Department is rumored to be one of the oldest departments in the state. The department was formed on August 6, 1876. Pierceton Fire Department was originally known as "The First Alert Company #1". In August of 2001, the department celebrated 125 years of service to the community.

The modern day Pierceton Fire Department is al all volunteer department. We cover approximately 58 square miles including a portion of US 30 and SR 13. We are a full service and well equipped department.

Although the concept of putting out fires has not changed over time, the manner in which we put out fires has changed considerably. The days of rushing into a burning building with very little protective clothing are long gone. We now have protective gear that affords the utmost protection to our members.

Fire Departments have now become more customer oriented. In the earlier years you called the fire department only if you had a fire. Fire Departments now respond to a multitude of events such as car accidents, alarms, gas leaks and yes, even cats in trees. One area that a lot of departments are now involved in is medical response. The Pierceton Fire Department has been responding to all medical calls in our area. Although we are an all volunteer service, we are fortunate to have a very dedicated group of First Responders. These responders are there day and night; ready to respond to any call for help.

The membership of our department is comprised of a group of dedicated individuals. We have members with many years experience and members that are just beginning their fire service career but coupled together, they make a strong team. Being a member of this department has been an honor for the past 20 years and I hope to have many more years of service to the community.

Sincerely,
Gordon Baker
Chief of Pierceton Volunteer Fire Department
