![]() Firemen work at the front of the house during Thursday afternoon’s house fire on CR 300E, south of CR 400S. According to the Pierceton Fire Department, crews responded to the blaze at 3:30 p.m. and the fire took two hours to get under control. The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation. ![]() Several individuals were air lifted this evening after losing control of there vehicle and ending upside down in the ditch....Several individuals were ejected this was a dual tone area with Sidney fire and there were a ample amount of staff that really accelerated patient care. ![]() Over the 4th of july holiday, members of the Pierceton Volunteer Fire Department conducted a boot drive with the proceeds going to the Hoosier Burn Camp. The residents of the community were very generus as well as the people passing thru the community with their donations. The Dept. was able to raise $2000.00. On Sept. 2nd hoosier Burn Camp Executive Director Mark Koopman traveled to Pierceton to Recieve a check from the Dept. Mr Koopman told the members of the Dept. about how the camp operates and invited the members down for the 2009 visitors day. ![]() The air ambulance lifts off from the scene of Saturday afternoon’s accident on Ind. 13, south of CR 700E. Marry M. Williams, 38, Wabash, was on a motorcycle when she lost control and was thrown off the vehicle. Williams complained of body pain, and was airlifted to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, where she was listed in fair condition this morning. ![]() A fire at J and B Pallet Co. on Levi Lee Road, west of CR 100E, Saturday afternoon destroyed the business. Plain Township Fire Department responded to the blaze and chief Mitch Rader said the building was a total loss. Rader said this was the second fire at the business. The first was in December 2005. Saturday’s fire originiated on the west side of the building and is not believed to be intentional. The blaze is still being investigated. Fire crews were able to control the blaze in an hour, but were on the scene until almost 11:30 p.m. The business is owned by James Marsilett Sr. There were no injuries. Warsaw, Winona Lake, Milford, North Webster and Pierceton Fire Department, the American Red Cross and Multi-Township EMS were on the scene. (Special Thanks to Times Union) |
![]() At 12:59 a.m. Saturday, Warsaw Police Department officer Brandon Zartman responded to a dispatch call of a dumpster fire in an alley on the northeast side of Gordy's, 101 E. Winona Avenue, Warsaw In. Zartman said he observed the dumpster that was on fire, and stated the fire spread to a nearby utility pole, eventually catching the roof of Gordy's on fire. The fire also caused damage to Tokens 'N' Tickets, which is located on the first floor of Gordy's, and the Chamber of Commerce building, which is just north of Gordy's on Buffalo Street. Early reports from the scene claimed several juveniles were believed to have set the dumpster on fire. "I saw these kids by the back dumpster. I don't know if they were just watching the fire or what, but they scattered, then the fire caught on to the utility pole," said eyewitness Bruno Martinski, who called police. The fire remains under investigation. Pierceton Fire Rescue, Winona Lake, Atwood, Leesburg and Claypool fire departments assisted at the scene. Red Cross also assisted. ![]() Firefighters lay hoses during Saturday morning’s fire at Packerton Free United Methodist Church along CR 800S. Fire crews, led by Sidney Fire Department, received the call shortly after midnight Saturday and in a short time the building was fully involved. The church had been abandoned for several years and is currently owned by Hoosier Landfill, according to Sidney Fire Department’s Don Ellison. Ellison said crews had the fire under control in 50 minutes. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Claypool and Silver Lake fire departments assisted, while Winona Lake Fire Department provided water and so did Pierceton Fire Department at Sellers Lake. ![]() Two semi-tractor-trailers sit on the shoulder of the westbound lane of U.S. 30 this morning after a semi driven by Robert Dudzinski, 46, LaPorte, was rear-ended by a semi driven by Mirzad Pojski, 49, Chicago. Neither driver was injured though a substantial amount of damage was done to both semis. HazMat crews were called, along with the Indiana Department of Enviormental Management, to clean up diesel fuel that was leaking from both semis. ![]() A Pierceton man survived a one-vehicle accident only to die after coming into contact with power lines downed during the crash. At approximately 1:24 p.m. Friday, Pierceton Fire Rescue/Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department/Multi-Township EMS responded to a personal injury accident on CR 575E near CR 100N. According to police, Johnathon Patterson, 25, Pierceton, was traveling on CR 575E in his Chevy pickup when, for an unknown reason, he went off the east edge of the road. The pickup broke off an REMC utility pole and struck a tree before coming to rest. Police said Patterson exited his vehicle and was electrocuted near the roadway by power lines downed during the crash. Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroners' Office. The Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Team was assisted at the scene by Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Warsaw Police Department, Pierceton Fire Department, Multi-Township EMS and Kosciusko County REMC. ![]() A house fire occurred at 8:14 p.m. Sunday at 9711 E. CR 600N, North Webster. The bitter cold and windy conditions hampered the efforts of several area fire departments who responded to the scene. There were two residents in the home at the time of the fire who escaped without injuries and were taken to a relative's home, according to Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Chad Hill. The fire was put out by 3 a.m. today. Fire departments who assisted at the scene included North Webster, Syracuse, Winona Lake, Cromwell, Leesburg, Larwill and Pierceton. ![]() Pierceton Fire Was Dispatched out to a R.V. Fire @ U.S. 30 and Arnolt Drive Today. Upon arrival the campers front half was fully involved. The Eastbound lane was shut down for a period of time until the extinguishment was complete. Camper was a total loss due to heavy amounts of smoke damage to the rest of the interior. ![]() North Webster Fire Department was assisted by Pierceton Fire Deptartment at a fire at 54 EMS B 61 K Lane, North Webster, Monday morning at 11:41 a.m. It took fire crews approximately six hours to extinguish the blaze. The home was a total loss and four other homes sustained damage. NWFD Lt. David Dishman thanked the residents for getting elderly residents out of the home. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined and no damage estimate was availble. The photo was taken by Sechrist Lake resident Ellen Clark. Clark commended the response of the fire deparments involved and credited them with saving two adjacent homes. ‘The one on the east side was so close, and with the wind direction, it could have easily gone up, too,’ Clark said. |
